i've honestly rarely heard mp3s that sound any good at 128... 256 is decent 95% of the time
maybe you just have crappy headphones/earphones/audio card(really bad shitty card)?

well the quality starts with the ripper itself.
All my MP3's are Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat sounding and most I ripper meself @ a 128 bit rate.
So it's all about the coding much like movies/TV/ and anime files.

well I've found 128kps is the best for 2 channel stereo audio. any higher and just wastes HDD space, or hides bugs, worms, and other vermin to damage your computer.

but indeed 320 is better, or flacs if you can ever find those bloody things... not that i really have much use for them tbh... lossy compression's good enough for me, even if it's not 'perfect'... still better than barely being able to play the bloody things sometimes

with good headphones and 320kbps rips you can hear them better xD
