Hi Fakedejiko, I'm glad you want to help out. e107 is real easy to pick up. I'm wondering if you can tell me a little more about your backgrounds. Any programming experience? It's not necessary, but very helpful for understanding me. ^^ How much time can you make available for the forums?

Hey Rei! Just wanted to let you know I LOVE this site. Very much needed. My RPG forums uses it ALOT when it comes to making characters. Thank you SO much! If there's anything I can help with consider me at your disposal. I work during the day from 6am to 2pm but I spend a considerable amount of time on the comp after that. I'm not awesome with programming but I do have css and html experience. I've moderated at several forums including FRoP
. I'm currently the admin of Kurenai Shi
. So I'm pretty handy with forums. I also do a lot of PS work so if you need graphics I'm pretty handy with that as well. Thanks for your consideration. I'd love to help with what I can.

Hi neko-ka-san - thanks! It's always good to hear the site is appreciated. Your skillsets are very much needed. Before I can try to tug you in one direction or another, I'll need to know what type of commitment you're willing to make. The easiest and most flexible contribution would be becoming either a forum moderator, or a forum administrator. I imagine you're quite familiar with moderator tasks so I'll talk about administration. I would give you access to all the tools that manage these forums, and free reign to play around with them as you see fit.
Now onto the larger commitment I'm very much excited about. It's something I honestly wish I could pay for. At the moment all I can offer is highly visible attribution. Would you be interesting in making 288 images (98 unique) that, with a little coding magic, would be turned into a graphical character creation process which would replace the current drop down menu system? This is a heavy task that could take upwards of a month. You would need to sketch various character concept art, then color all the modular parts... does it sound like a project you'd be up to? Thinking... 2 * 4 = 8 (Each sex, 4 ages) (BASE1) 8 * 7 = 56 (BASE1 * Hair lengths) (BASE2) 8 * 13 = 104 (Eyes) (BASE3) 8 * 13 = 104 (Hair Color) (BASE4) 8 * 2 = 16 (Ears) (BASE5) Total: 288 Unique: 98 Ears, hair and eye are modular. BASE1 = Sex and age. No hair, no ears, no eyes BASE2 = Hairs BASE3 = Eyes BASE4 = Hair colors BASE5 = Ears |

^you know, you could totally do the picture thing with Poser. I know that you can render the 3d elements with a little bit of anime styling and changing colors would be a breeze for hair and eyes. I'm not sure if I have any aged settings for my characters though... Anyway, I could render a bunch of pictures of eyes, hair, and bodies in a relatively short amount of time, though I'm not sure if my schedule would allow much time for me to deal with it. If you want I can do some prototyping to show what I mean when I have some free time.

I'd be fine with either 2d or 3d images. brobb355, if you'd like to take this on, I'm totally cool with you doing it at your own pace, a few minutes here and there over the month. I'll be using these images to create a layered character image on the fly. Here's the last bit of specifications:
The images have to be all the same size, have no background, and be transparent png's. I suppose I'm breaking this into 4 or 5 modular pieces that I'll be assembling on the fly. You have the hairs. The eyes. The bodies. And the ears. How does 200x300px seem for size? |

Here's a quick preview of some of what I'd work with (5-10 minutes or so work time on it). I'd probably have a bit of trouble with ears, we'll see. This is the female child render (I tried getting rid of the breasts, that's the best I could do without it looking wierd in the program and without paying for morphs). I could do better on the child one but I was thinking that not a lot of change in features would make things easier for us (your opinion on this matter?). I'll see what I can do with photoshop stuff when I get all the 3d rendering kinks sorted out. I have all the stuff for the female renders except the old lady for sure, and I'm pretty sure I have stuff for the male up to college-aged man except maybe for hair, we'll see. Looks like I've got to install a bunch of my poser content that I've collected.
...hmm, seems the attach file feature doesn't work, that or I'm not understanding how it works. oh well. [ Edited Feb 3, 2008 ] |

Fixed the image uploads. It should work with little hassle now.
I must say, that is impressive. I am all for simplifying things where we can. This could work with 2 character modules. One generic male, and one generic female - leaving out the age aspect. It's up to you. It seems the next phase is the modularity. Here's a crud example of how I'll be generating characters from your images: http://www.animecharactersdatabase.com/gd/ |

ok, made an old lady version, I'm looking for opinions (age appearance, more/less weight to body, need a moomoo lol). If it's hair you think I'm lacking I'll get to that after I get the body thing done. Question: Rei, is there any other ear options that you want other than the nekomimi thing?
