Rinn's been discussing Character Associations with me, and it has me wondering how to best implement this...


Some situations:
Adding Chizuru Ikeda and Chitose Ikeda as sisters in Yuru Yuri.
Serena and her alias as Sailor Moon .
Members of team Kakashi...


i can think of about 4 scenarios:

Character A --> Character B

Character A --> Characters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Association A --> Characters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Association A --> Character A --> Characters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6


How complex / versatile should this be?

I could implement something like...

Character A is related to Character B by Reason 1 in a few minutes.

Do we need to be able to store more information? or would that be good enough?

In most cases I imagine it would hold but there a couple of situations where a relationship might be more distant (and thus a pedigree/more complexity is needed) especially if it is related to the plot in some fashion. The fist example that comes to mind is from a non-anime Avatar and Prince Zuko and Aang "family ties."

Are we talking about incorporating stuff like this:

into the database?

So, for example, in the Konata character page, it tells us that she is the child of Kanata and Soujirou, which will also be click-able links to those characters? (and if we clicked on Kanata, it would say she's married to and had a child with Soujirou)

Is this the correct assumptions above?

Yes! awesome graphic 13x31. that's the easier side of it.

Rinn wanted it to deal with character aliases.

possibly anon17 can get lookalikes covered by this as well?


*nods at CaptainBrain* thinking about complex family relations also gave me some pause. plus how to design it so the right relationship shows on each characters page.

time to get coding. see what problems i run into covering the above situations... then either adapt, or not support them. lol

Another thought is the ability to hide or "spoiler tag" such relationships if such ties are indeed plot sensitive. For those who are curious about show/person but who do not want to ruin any future viewing experience.
