this is Asuka *** *** whatever her middle and last names were. Shinji isn't traditionally a female name. This is a bigger mixup since its a different person, different gender, but what was really funny was that anyone who saw the series couldnt possibly mix the two up because they are completely different from each other.

A few notes about character ages to hopefully clarify things...
Character age is decided based on appearance, not factual information.


It would be hard to identify this image if he was correctly labeled a senior.




It would also be difficult to identify this image if she was correctly labeled an 18 year old adult.







That aside, I have been taking into consideration adding a field for "actual age" so that the correct age can be place on the character profile. None the less, as far as searches go among unidentified images, only the apparent age is useful.

Yes, but although they are really skinny and well endowed for teens, they are still teens. If you look at the other actual adult characters, its noticable that they look like adults so in contrast...



In the case of inuyasha, he still looks like a teen so people wont make that mistake, even though technically he is really old. As for the other one, is that a chibi, or is she always like that? Cause yes, that would be really confusing.

Rei's age has be changed to teen.

While I do consider all the factors you mentioned when choosing the apparent age, there is one factor not mentioned that is more important than all others: the eyes .

Large eyes positioned slightly below the center of the face means the character is a child.

Large or normal eyes positioned near the center of the face mean the character is a teen.

Larger or normal eyes positioned well above the center of the face means the character is an adult. Small eyes positioned at the center of the face or higher means the character is an adult. This is the eye style Rei has, and is consistent with standard Japanese drawing techniques of adult characters.


The eyes are the most reliable way sorting characters by apparent age. Considering your points, and thinking over other examples, Rei does fit in well as a Teen character. Thanks. ^_^

Wow, I never thought of using proportionisms for judging anime character ages. (was this from Michaelangelo or da vinci?) I think that rei looking like an adult would also be influenced by the fact that Rei pretty much doesnt have a soul and just does whatever people tell her to do. And she is a clone of another adult character in the show, and aside from the hair and eye color is a perfect match to her.

^in answer to your first two, the characters are grouped according to the appearance in the pic, not the info in the series. According to the pic those colors are correct, if you can get a screenie of any of those characters that say otherwise of what was input then please submit it.

The version of Mai Hime I added to the database was a game. The character designs do differ from the anime....

I could add the anime version with its set of characters. but then I have added Mai Z-Hime which has the exact same characters... What would you like to see done?

I saw that but it's written as game+anime
Mai hime and Mai Z-Hime (also called Mai Otome) are alternative world (and a 3rd one is comming XD)
Some character have minor physical differance, last names are differant and some (minor again) character are in one not in the other

I think there should be 2 differant entry
