Mitsugu Mouryou’s Anime Review
Girls und Panzer has got to have to most outlandish ridiculous premise ever!!! The whole time it kept making wonder: How much weirder can it get… Spoiler Alert!!
To start, these high schools are on Academy ships, city sized aircraft carrier shaped ships only twice and in some cases vastly bigger. Somewhere along the line someone got the idea to let high school students (females only) engage in tankery(Sensha-dō: armored tank combat) under the guise that it will make them more lady-like. ‘Cuase when I think of an erotic fragrance, the first thing that comes to mind is: motor oil; rust; and diesel fuel. While using live rounds, they are to maneuver their tanks, and disable or destroy(cease the function of) their opponents. There is some mention of a special ‘carbon-coated armor’ on the interior that prevents anyone from getting hurt, but with the range and artillery they’re hurling at each other you could line it with ½ meter of diamond plate and I still would get in it. So they’re pushing anime physics a little far with that one. Not to mention, though desperately strapped for cash, Oarai Girls Academy always seem to have repair funds for their antiquated fleet of rust buckets. While the voice acting is satisfactory, the writing is beyond cheesy, the plot doesn’t make a lick of sense(anime physics for ya) seems moar like a videogame, win the fight and you’re back up to full strength… and yes there is a video game version out. Now I’m not saying this is a crappy anime… just bizarre, it must have been the otaku and the volleyball team that brought my spirits up, even though they didn’t get nearly enough screen time. Containing violence and a lot of loud cannon blasts I’d give it a 1.8(out of 10) Not so great background noise due to the volume difference of the conversation and the tank fire combined with the OST filled with old time cavalry marching band music. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying ‘It Stinks’, or ‘don’t view’… it’s that it is so far out there that you may enjoy it for its WTH moments, but that is all. *Note* After all of my viewing, then reviewing of Girls und Panzer, it has started to grow on me... The kids are cute, the 'Tech-jarggin' is rather accurate along with the tank designs, so I must give it a better rating: 3.3(out of 10). It grows on ya. Thank you MMAR28 |
