I've started adding support for Award Pins to the site. Which leaves us in a situation of needing Pins!


So far thanks to CaptainBrain we have the following:

Character Submit level 1 is handed out for uploading over 1000 characters.

Pins do not have to be specific! We can have hundreds, even thousands of them. I'll be coding up over the next few days an Award Framework where you can list "My Awards", and pick which ever badge you feel like wearing.

I will consider allowing every holder of a Pin to hand out copies of that pin to other members.

In fact, I may even add an "Upload new Pin" mode to the tool where pending mod approval, you can create a new pin for yourself and if you choose start handing it out to others.

So there will be different classes of Pins.... Site Award Pins being the class shown above.

I have a few questions about those awards:

What do you do it somebody, like you, have added more than 5000 characters? Did you give yourself "level 4" 5 times and one "level 1" for 21,000 characters? How does it work?

What do you need to do to get those awards?

Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas for new pins, but I think I'll come up with something, now that the special pins really exist!

I'm not sure what to do about the higher levels of added characters. I know you'll soon reach 5000 characters. But I think the pool of characters left to add is such that it is highly unlikely anyone else would reach 5000 characters added. Although, it is possible - it would just take a lot more effort. We'll need to find more pins! haha

I only took the V.I.P. pin...


Once I have the Pin Manager coded... let's see.
On your profile, you'll have all 4 pins for characters added. Plus I'll give you the V.I.P. and Special Recognition pins.
Then... you can use the Pin Manager to select the Pin that'll appear next to your profile on the site. And! You can use it to give pins to other members.

The way I have this figured out...
The value of a Pin will be determined by the following criteria:

A) who has one / how many people have it
B) who gives them out / how hard it is to get
C) how desirable it is / why would i want it

Possibly by the weekend, I'll have up to this point coded. ^_^

Yay, 1000 characters!

I will field Ano's question about the V.I.P. pin. The pin was originally facing in the other direction but I reversed it in order to get to match with the other award pins, what this did is have it read P.I.V. so using Paint I cut out the "V.I.P." and rotated to be read properly, the downside was that the coloring in the background is off (note the bad transition), hence the T.L.C. needed to correct the ascetic problem.

The way I saw the difference between V.I.P. and Special Recognition is the V.I.P. was an award that could only be handed out by Rei, or at the very least a committee of high-ranking members. Whereas Special Recognition was an award that could be handed out by more individuals, such as defending another member from harassment, pointing out trouble makers or just being an excellent member, this award still being limited to mid-ranking admins.
