D is considered the best Hunter on the frontier, and specializes in killing vampires. He is a dhampir, with a vampire father and human mother. He is the result of extensive genetic manipulation on his father's part, and his father considered D his only successful experiment. Despite his appearance of being a youth aged 17 or 18 years, his true age is unknown. His favored weaponry consists of a sword and wooden throwing needles for long-distance staking. D's appearance on the covers of the novels, in the animes, the manga and game frequently differ significantly from his description in the book, particularly his attire.
