Shiina Mayu is a middle-schooler who doesn't go to school anymore. Instead, she insists that she be allowed to go to Kouhei's school after meeting him in the woods and he helped her bury her dead ferret, named Myuu--a word she says in any moment of excitement.

She seems to suffer from mental retardation--though she is 13, she speaks and acts as though she is closer to 7, though maybe I'm just looking a little too much into it... Spoilers follow.

Shiina has an extremely hard time making friends, so she refuses to go to her own school and once she met Kouhei, she demanded that she go to his. She depends on Kouhei for just about everything, but in the end, Kouhei helped her grow up and learn to make her own friends.
