Ishikawa, I'd love to travel to Asia and be immersed in the language, but it's hard to get there on a budget from North America. Haha. As for the Chinese exam... I just didn't remember enough characters and vocabulary. It's incredible, I take the course for the soul purpose of translating Chinese into English, and there wasn't a single translation question like that on the entire exam. :S

I guess when it comes to travelling, the most expensive part is the flight.
Particularly in China you can find a place to stay and eat for pretty cheap.

^yeah, getting from the US to Japan is upwards of $1000+, after that expenses aren't too bad (advice: don't rent a cell phone in Japan, I've heard those are really expensive).

The flight is a minimum of $1000 for me, considering I first have to fly to a major city that has regular flights to Japan.

As for my travel plans... the flight isn't the most expensive part. A weekend stay at 柊家旅館 (Hiiragiya Ryokan) can cost up to $2,400. The other Ryokan's I want to visit vary from $100 to $300 a night.

Then a Green Class rail card for 3 weeks is about $700.

The trip I have in mind for a 3 week stay in Japan will probably run me from $5,000 to $10,000.

It costs me roughly $1000 for the flight to HK, but i live there for free lol.
I have to save money for spending over there though.

You'll learn more about Japan in 3 weeks than you would in 3 months by actually visiting.
