We've all heard various epic quotes, famous sayings, and saga advise before, so I ask which ones have meaning to you?

"Programming is an Exact Science" - I got this one from Full Metal Alchemist. It's not a direct quote, as it was said during a cook off between Winry and that librarian person. Winry was arguing "Cooking is an exact science". It's helped me thinking programming is an exact science, because it puts me in control, and I don't have to get as frustrated with writing code that doesn't do what I wanted, because I know it's doing exactly what I programmed it to do.

"You're thinking in Japanese! If you must think, do it in German!" - Asuka Langley Soryu (Evangelion)
Yeah, Shinji wasn't very good at thinking in a foreign language, unfortunately for him.

"And what's the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge." - Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
After that thing poisoned him and began attacking them. Luckily they had Ed.

"Man fears the darkness, and so he scrapes away at the edges of it with fire." - Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Just plain cool

"Nothing amazing happens here" - Naota Nandaba (FLCL)
After the giant Iron got gripped by the rather phallic looking terminal core deciding to smooth space time and unleash Atomsk until it possessed Naota's body, supercharging him by allowing him to merge both guitars into an epic one, where he used it to defeat Haruka Hara Haruko. Yeah, nothing ever happens.

How about something infamous, I think anyone who's seen the japanese version of Naruto before the English agrees with me when I say that "Believe It!" is very annoying...dattebayo.

Yeah, about that. It's infamous because most people know its wrong, but then again, what would be the correct translation? I've thought about this every time someone mentions naruto. And I have no idea. the saying itself is a composition of sayings. you can get "datte, datteyo,, datteba" but its not exactly common to put it all together as one. why does he do it? who knows, maybe its to make him look stupid, or uncultured, etc.
I think the closest thing to this would be like

"Word, what he said"

but that in this country is tied more towards africans instead of just as a general slang like "whatsup", and another problem is that in japanese, you dont need to say the subject, so putting a "he" in "what he said" would be too specific. It could also be "what she said" or "what I said"

so I have no idea.

I believe 'dattebayo' was Masashi Kishimoto's idea of a catchphrase or tag-line for Naruto.
In meaning, i think it's supposed to make Naruto sound somewhat like a brat.

As for quotes, i particularly like Usopp's Sogeking themetune. Oh and the line in my sig. You gotta admire The Laughing Man.

In answer to that, dattebayo is a compilation of three japanese sentence endings: da, tte ba, and yo. the last two endings is meant to emphasize the sentence, the first is just a casual replacement of desu ("sou da"). I'm sure you've run across all of these separate sentence endings in other animes. tte ba is usually used when trying to get someone's attention and shows a little impatience ("Jun tte ba..!"). yo is used usually when the speaker thinks that the listener doesn't get it or if the speaker thinks the listener doesn't know something about what's being said ("sore wa sou desuyo"). Hope that clears things up.

About Fuyu's comment:

I believe that's the case too, kind of like in Rozen Maiden where Suisei Seki always says "desu" at the end of a sentence or in Prince of Tennis where Kikumaru Eiji says "Nya" and incorporates it into his speech.

Wow, nice explanations. I already half understood the meanings to these, but its hard to put into words. Yo can also be used like in a store, to the customer ("yon hyaku en desu yo") but either way, English doesnt have any word to accurately replace even one of these sentence endings.
Desu is just a quirk they made the character say. Yeah, grammar-wise it should be there, but its not common because its longer, and they make the character always say it to make that character unique. "Nya" i dont know the character, but this is probably going with the whole catgirl/boy thing. Not interested.

sweet, kenshin was great. rather underappreciated nowadays. not enough fanservice or whoring out to the masses like in a lot of other major animes.

Hmmm, I heard this one off Kung-fu panda and thought it pretty wise. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift...that's why it is called the present.
