Posted 11 year(s) ago | Mario Characters Not Anime? | # 9840 |

So I saw the site already accepted the content of games and characters from The Legend of Zelda series/franchise. I figured Mario would be just as welcomed if Zelda was. However all my character submissions were turned down: "Not a valid anime character." Mario may be cartoony, but Zelda isn't far from that. And it doesn't make sense to decline it simply for being CG artwork, as the Zelda series has had 3D renders.
Aside from that, Mario became a anime years before it became an American cartoon or a live-action movie. Still, my biggest concern here is why any Zelda content should be considered more anime than Mario. Again Mario may be "cartoony", but anime can be western looking and still be anime, right? |

Hi Tomba.
We're not going to branch out to indexing any and all characters just yet. The focus of this site has been indexing characters people are likely to come across on image boards and forum posts in a context that makes them ask "Who's That Character". This means our focus is on anime and hentai game characters. There will be a time in the future all kinds of game characters can be added, but that time is not now. I hope that helps explain the rejection. Also, Zelda : On a scale 0 ( marvel comics ) to 100 ( Dragon Ball Z ) .... Zelda is a 40. On most days, I'd have rejected it outright without any consideration. It probably got in because it has been an anime. I am aware some people have been abusing the non-moderated New Series creation to pull the site in a new direction of indexing various Nintendo games. I'm putting a stop to that for now. Alright. Like I said though, Mario has been an anime as well. If you consider Mario too low on such a scale, I guess I understand. Still, Mario characters are basically just western-styled anime characters most-commonly depicted in cg-form. Hopefully one day the characters will be acceptable though. Or maybe the creators of this site could just make a video-game characters database as an affiliate?

It perhaps also depends of the Anime/Game it is part of… I have already been surprised of seeing Goofy in the DataBase. But, he's part of "Kingdom Hearts" with some Japanese anime-like characters, so, well… if Mario becomes one day a anime hero, I think why not. But this is only my personal thought;
Rei certainly knows better than me on this issues.

You gotta wonder about someone who would post a pic of Mario in the Who Boards, ne? -__-

There's just one creator of the site, and that's me.
I have considered spin off sites. ( It is very tempting to move all our filtered images to another site, for one. lol ) Something like that is going to be necessary to accommodate a larger variety of characters. The main issue here is that Mario characters and Zelda characters worsen the quality of our visual search results. However, if they were not included in the visual search, there would be no problem having them in the database as named characters assigned to a series. Is there a new category of "Other Character" that could resolve this? [ Edited Jul 8, 2012 ] |

It calls for moderation, even light, for added series.
