Karatsu is a student monk at a Buddhist university. He can speak to the dead, an unusual talent that he tries to keep secret. He can also sometimes temporarily allow the corpse to move. His skills are sometimes compared to that of an itako. While working with the Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, he is often the person in charge of figuring out where the dead person wants to be taken.
