Could you guys help me? I have been searching for months for the origins of my avatar, but I am not having any luck. A pseudo-original image is attached below (my avatar is modified). She has red or orange hair, blue eyes, and is facing left. She could be from an anime or game with anime ties from the early 2000s or late 1990s (nothing after 2003). I have visually inspected entire avatar websites, and searched this site even, but she does not appear to be on any of them. I appreciate any help you can offer, I will follow every suggestion. Thank you.

Looks like some fan art of Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy VII in my opinion.
I could be wrong though.
My suggestion would fit, since Tifa has been an icon since 1997.
Only problem is that her eyes are traditionally brown.

I think you are in the right area - I was in to FF and those kinds of games around that time. It may have even come from an avatar site themed as such ("Somebody's Avatar Site" anybody know it?) But it is not Tifa, and I did look again to confirm that. While the hair might originally be darker than what my avatar shows, the hair style and drawing styles do not match, and the eyes were definately blue. There is also a backdrop in my avatar, of mountains and a red sky it looks like, which suggests to me that it might come from a scene or clip, rather than a still drawing. I really hope it's not a fan art or original artwork, it would be just like me to pick something so obscure. I wouldn't pick an icon or popular character for an avatar. Thank you though.

Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion?

There are lots of Evangelion games out there, and plenty of fan-art.
There is a striking similarity don't you think?

Where's Rei in this? IMO that character looks like it would be from a game.

Fuyu: do you know anything about Rebirth of Evangelion? I heard that was supposed to be a more modern sequel to End of Evangelion but I haven't heard much more about stuff like release dates and whatnot. Any info?

I'm thinking along the same lines as Fuyu, that the character is from FFVII... I was leaning more towards Areis.

Thank you for your suggestions, however it does not appear to be either Aeris or Asuka. It is not any Final Fantasy avatar. There appears to be some resemblence to Asuka, but not enough to call it a match. The hairstyles are still slightly different - note the way the bangs are parted in the front. The drawing style also appears to be slightly different. I checked avatars, galleries, image searches, and even fan art, but could not find a match. I don't think I'm going to find a match unless I come across the exact image the avatar comes from :/

Any other suggestions?

Evangelion: Death and Rebith actually precedes the End of Evangelion movie. It was the first movie spin-off of the TV show when the fans were angry with the last 2 episodes. Death is an hour long re-edit of TV eps 1-24 with some new footage thrown in. Rebith is the same but for eps 25 & 26. As far as I know, all of this footage was eventually included in the Director's Cut of the TV show.
