Card battles.

Cards aren't really any worth collecting since you can just look up one on the site. It's not like they're actually being made in stores.

So I think card battles would be fun. Here's an example:

User1: .duel
AnimeCharactersDatabase: You draw: Noel Vermillion ( Stats: Strength: 7 Speed: 9 Stamina: 8
ACD draws: Haruka Nanase ( Stats: Strength: 8 Speed: 10 Stamina: 10

CRUSHING DEFEAT

You lost the card.

If you win a duel, you can get whatever card the bot drew. If not, you LOSE the card you drew.

You win if your card's stats are higher that the bot's.

What do you think?

You know, I think a way to make it more interesting would be to have it as a feature on the site. Players could duel one another with a set of cards.

That certainly is a cool idea!

I've been holding off on coding any card battles, as a lot of planning is required to design a system that's simple and fun.


We certainly have lots of cards, so I'm in full agreement a card game would be an awesome project to work on.

Everything can go from simple to complex so quickly.

Assigning cards stats :: do we do it randomly, or should someone choose the stats to assign to playable decks of cards ?

Deciding a winner :: Is it a simple sum, adding up all the stats - whichever card has the higher number is the winner ? Or are the stats weighted ?

Assigning stats - Randomly. Assigning stats to EVERY SINGLE CARD is gonna take a lot of time.

Deciding da winner - If your card trumps more stats than the other, you win. For example:

If your card has better speed and strength stats than the other, you win the duel.

Or, if we're making a this a full blown feature, we can just roll dice instead. :P

I think something simple would be easier to code. As in Magic the Gathering's case, each creature card only has attack and defence (written as "a/d"), which is much simpler.

It follows this (first creature is the attacker):
x/y creature wins over a/x creature
x/y creature draws with creature y/x (both die)
a/x creature is defeated by x/y
x/y creature does not kill to a/b creature (nothing happens)
x/y creature is not defeated by a/b creature (again, nothing happens)

I can provide a numeric example upon request if it would help to understand the above system.

Example 1: creature A has 3 attack and 2 defence (3/2), and creature B is 1/3. In this case, creature A defeats creature B.
Example 2: creature A is 3/2, and creature B is 2/3. In this case both creature A and B defeat each other.
Example 3: creature A is 1/3, and creature B is 3/2. In this case, creature A is defeated by creature B.
Examples 4&5: creature A is 3/2, and creature B is 1/4. In this case, neither of the creatures are able to defeat each other.

If we take these examples into ACDB's card system... Example 2 would be a "death draw" where both users lose the card they play, and examples 4&5 would be a "true draw" where neither player loses their card.

So, if both cards have the same stats, they both die?

It depends on the attack and defence. Two 3/2 card will both die (example 2), but two 2/3 cards will not (example 4&5).

Something simple and random is easy enough to implement .. whether it's the stats suggested by Bob8644, or the Attack Defence suggested by 13


Next up is, what do we do about the odds, and limitations ?

Do we go truly random, or tweak the odds in favour of losing more cards than you win or winning more cards than you lose ?

And what happens if someone decides to play this 100,000 times ... ? Would they lose every card they have, or would the gain an unfair number of copies of every card ACDB has to offer ?



Also all of our cards are Ranked from F to SSS.

I think you should have to play a SSS card to win a SSS card.

Will the cards played be chosen completely at random from the cards you have, or should you be allowed to choose the cards you play ?
