Ok first things first, I really liked the new banner, It's refreshing, Tho, I gotta be honest, I feels kinda rushed. There are some unsettling stuff going on there... images shall illustrate better my point

1. Some careless eraser work
2. Bad Cut/Clip/Mask (whatever you want to call...)
3. Probably reminiscent background color probably due opacity on the original image making(or something...)
4. so many edges are jagged/bitten/sawtoothed(whatevz...)

So I'm not only here to bash and "sheet"...
I think a banner is kinda the face of site so, Poor quality... Is a Diminishing first impression.
And I want to help... so... I made some corrections.

1. Did a softer erasing thingy.
2. Redid the cuts.
3. Removed that remaining background color and set it to a neutral gray, also balanced some excessive cyan coloring on overall.
4. Everything is smoother now.

Ok, I think explainings are pretty much done.
So, I Made 2 previews of this stuff, One just as the one above, And one with some outlines... Just for testing, And because, I felt like the characters are mixing too much with the Bg pattern img, and I felt like they could get more, "Contrast?!" I don't even know... Ok here are 'em imgs:

So, To make those previews I downloaded the page and tested them switching the codelines to get an Accurate preview, And I noticed that actually the banner consists 2 imgs so, I made just the way it's supposed to be.(maybe that will ease the implementation... if implemented)

800x250
no outline:[Image]

800x50
no outline:[Image]

And a full transparent/no Bg img:

PSD stuff if interested:

Ok as I said I'm here to help.
(Just a reminder that I'm not being a dirk)

And... Much love...

Thank you Nanfenkoff !

Cirno likes the one without the outline, so I'll get your images in place to replace it. ^^

Would you be up to making a background image that pairs well with the characters ? I've been wanting to move away from tiles, and up to more complex scenery or a render ?

Thanks again for taking the time to make some valuable improvements ! ^_^

Hahaha thanks glad you liked it. so...

Surelly would like to try something out, But I kinda have a few conserns, mainly monitor resolution ones... I mean, With a good tile, you can easily make it repeat and solve the resolution issue... Tho with a more complex Bg... I'm not really sure how solve that one out.

It all will depend on what is your main idea is, I'm not good at coding(almost 0 to be exact), But i'm sure that there must be some clever workaround or way of doing these things.

Well... Off a little bit of that, For the current Characters, I would definetelly go for a beach scenery, Could even use some of the "empty" parts of the original image, and try to make some harmonious alterations of sorts (or none, or minor ones) if possible.
but still I'm kinda in the blank, becuz I'm really unsure how to fit things in... So, Whats the deal?

its fine if the img res is the same as the monitor:

the crappy erasing was my fault XD

I was indeed rushing but I figured no one ever looks at it long enough to care. lol

Thanks for your efforts. I'm just an image editing noob

oh and for the background, the typical bg has a 100px square tile so it tiles for every resolution even 4k I guess. But rei wants a photo that tiles. (picky) if you could find a super high res beach tho, and crop it to just the horizon, maybe that would work. but such big images are hard to post on the web. I scan posters at 3000 by 4000px and the files are huge!

CSS allows chaining images together these days, and bars on the side are an option.

It'll still be a challenge figuring it out to look good at 720p and 1080p.

Lel Cirno, looks like your assumption was wrong hahahahaha.
And about the editing noob afirmation, I don't really know about that, The last banner was pretty well done.

Now for the very wide img down there, And now up on the banner area(centered, I noticed that Rei). I think that will work pretty well, But idk if it needs to be 6k px wide... The biggest monitor res I've seem around is 3840 wide which is not that "widely" used... Lel

Amazing img btw, Did You edited that?

about that css thingy... I have no idea...
And what is with the bars thingy?

Ok not trying to be annoying but...
The server time thingy... needs to change color... It's kinda hard to see it in the sand as it is yellow now, And to continue with the sand, I think I could try to make it blend better with the water... Idk I'm making a few tests while I'm writting here... but I'm not 100% sure yet.
just a quick print here:

Oh yeah something I noticed, The sand img is 200x200px, But the area it apears is only 90px tall, Why not make it the same width as the sea one and 90px height? or even just (something)x90px?

I'll try to clarify how the site top is structured.

Container 1
Layer 1 : 250px background ( sky and water )
Layer 2 : 250px tall banner ( love live characters ), 1st half of banner
Layer 3 : Anime Characters Database logo

Container 2
Layer 1 : Any Size greater than or equal to 90px, sand image
Layer 2 : Any Size greater than or equal to 90px, 2nd half of banner
Layer 3 : Server Time, Search, Menu Buttons

The 2nd container has always had images larger than it's size because that is how I made them.

The "sand" image was a quick attempt by me, as blue on blue clashed too much and we needed a fix. Gimp only had wood, so tweaked that to look a little like sand.

As for bars, this wordpress demo has em :
