Last year rather sucked for me in terms of productivity. More projects coming my way that I could complete. Even in perfect health with max energy, there's just not enough to work on a dozen things simultaneously and get anywhere.
So I'm thinking I'll try for a while writing out my To-Do list at the beginning of the week. Leave it open for comment. I know everyone has ideas, and different projects appeal to different people. This is what makes selecting priorities so damn difficult. Here's what's on my mind today: 1. Password Reset tool 2. Moderation tools for publisher changes 3. My INTS projects ( stores various counters on a per user basis, providing useful info in the side menu ) 4. Capabilities ( a new admin system that allows assigning individual powers to mods ) 5. New Forum ( a general rewrite of the entire forum, making it cleaner, smoother, faster, and better ) 6. Forum - pin to top of thread ( i think for realllly long threads, it would be useful if the thread starter could write a summary of what's important at the top of every page of posts ) 7. Forum - Admin Area ( a place for admins only to discuss admin things ) 8. new add series tool ( the current one was designed back in like 2009 when i wanted it as a means to quickly and easily add a new title. but it needs a massive rework to include adding much more info, and a moderation queue ) 9. Books - mod panel ( edit, delete, flags, and other things ... the last thing i was working on. be nice to actually finish this for a change! hah. ) 10. Comments - mod edit ( reallllllly long posts that break the layout demand an edit mod that can fix them ... ) 11. Who - edit mode ( so apparently people want to edit their posts after making them? who knew! lol ) 12. check if update email works on user settings. and figure out how to do this so accounts that get hijacked can be reliably recovered 13. shared admin account ? ( needs more planning ) |

For #13 if the whole point is to check usability while at the same time to conserve duplicate accounts, then what about a "shared" non-admin account instead of a "shared" admin account.
1.) This will allow any admin to check the functionality of any change they make. 2.) Will help protect the site from potential abuse. For example an Admin Level 5 goes axe crazy. And so uses the Level 6 account to inflict damage on his fellow level fives. 3.) Preserves the admin hierarchy. If a Level 5 has access to a Level 6 account, what in theory (if not eventual practice) makes him different then an ordinary level 6? Granted the difference NOW between a Level 5 and a Level 6 is largely status but that could easily change one day. 4.) This allows admins who are Level 6 and above to view the forum like a "regular". As opposed to making another Admin account for 6+'s to use to change their rank. 5.) This account could serve as a way for admins to submit characters with details they are not quite positive with. Example they have a character whose hair length is on the line between descriptions, so they submit it with their best estimate and can have it "checked". This will help accuracy while at the same time granting anonymity to the submitter since it can be from any admin. The functionality of a "shared" admin account comes into play only when putting a stop to flame-wars and making public statements that would be controversial. 1.) A flame war erupts and any admin who goes in their to put down the boot will be largely ostracized and berated. But with a "shared" account it acts as a buffer to protect the admins dignity. 2.) If a known-to-be change that is controversial (like removing a feature or implementing a new rule) it could be posted by the anonymous admin again as a form of protection against unnecessary backlash directed against an individual. As the forum is too small for such wars (most forum discussions are largely admins as it currently stands) and new rules are added more openly, such an account IMO is at present unnecessary. About #13... the idea was to hand out the password to a L6 admin account to all L5 admins.
Given how assigning admin ranks works, if you lowered your Admin rank temporary, only an admin L6 could raise it back to L5. Sharing a non-admin account could work too. I've wanted to have an "Anime Characters Database" official user for a while. But properly incorporating it into the site is a long and difficult road. That would have all the benefits you mentioned. It's not too high of a priority for now ... so I'm leaving it until the motivation is there to get it done. ^^ --- Hmm, so as for a status report... I think I did a little work on the Books (#9) this week. haha But I was able to create a new favorites system. And started work on Character Groups. Still a few hours left in the day. Maybe I can still get it all done tonight. haha Procrastination ftw. |
