(巴 マミ Tomoe Mami) Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi (Japanese), Carrie Keranen (English) Mami is a veteran magical girl and a third-year student at Madoka's school. She lives alone in a penthouse after the death of her parents in a car accident, during which she was only able to survive by contracting with Kyubey to save her own life. Her magical abilities revolve around yellow ribbons, which can suspend enemies and be manipulated to produce nearly infinite amounts of Tanegashima-like flintlock rifles, as well as also possessing healing magic. Mami is particularly focused on saving those around her, with a traditionally selfless perspective on the role of magical girl, and has a habit of giving names to her finishing attacks. She had previously been Kyōko's partner but was left alone after Kyōko changed her ideals. Though her outward disposition is cheery and confident, inside Mami feels deeply alone as she has no friends to confide in or support her as she fights. Madoka offers to become her partner and save her from her loneliness, but Mami is subsequently killed by a witch named Charlotte, never knowing the darker truths concerning Soul Gems and origins of witches. In other timelines where she had learned the truth, she had often broken down, in one timeline attempting to kill the others and herself. In the final timeline, Mami is still alive and fights along Homura and Kyouko. In the PSP game, her witch form is a small fairy-like witch named Candeloro.

(キララ) Voiced by: Fumiko Orikasa (Japanese), Colleen Clinkenbeard (English) Kirara is a Mikumari (water maiden, a village priestess) of Kanna village. She decides to go find the samurai to be brought back to her village, while admitting that she also wanted to see the outside world. She possesses a dowsing crystal on a necklace which allows her to detect the flow of groundwater and to read other's hearts. She rejects Katsushiro's love, and later is shown to have fallen for Kambei instead, who rejected her for his own reasons.

(キュウゾウ) Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki (Japanese), Sonny Strait (English) Kyuzo is originally a nearly silent, mysterious bodyguard for Ayamaro. In that role, he fights with Kambei, and he later joins the group with the stated intent of saving Kambei's life so that he can later fight Kambei to the death. Kyuzo is an incredibly skilled fighter, wielding double blades that fit into one sheath on his back. He's accidentally killed by Katsushiro when Katsushiro used a gun to protect Kambei because his sword was broken. Rather than showing anger to Katsushiro or regret of his own life, he instead expresses his anticipation of fighting Kambei in the after world. He is the sixth samurai.

(ヘイハチ) Voiced by: Junji Inukai (Japanese), Greg Ayres (English) Heihachi is a genial samurai who wishes to avoid fighting as much as possible and prefers to eat rice instead. During the Great War, he took a position as a combat engineer, which kept him off the front lines but also used his mechanical skills. He is discovered chopping wood in exchange for food or devices that interest him. He is most helpful within the group as their mechanic, and orchestrates the construction of medieval-type weapons. However, he harbors a deep hatred for traitors as he was one himself, which resulted in his whole unit being killed. He is crushed by a huge iron bar. Before dying, he shouts out: "I'll be in the rice" or "Find me in the rice". Within the series, he talks about the old tradition of the "seven rice kami" inside every grain of rice. He dies with a smile, and shows himself to be friendly and jovial till his end. He is the third samurai.

(キクチヨ) Voiced by: Kong Kuwata (Japanese), Christopher Sabat (English) Kikuchiyo is a cyborg with a mechanized exoskeleton. He was originally a peasant until becoming a samurai to help others. He is often looked upon as a clown or a bother, as he gets angry easily and often causes trouble with his loud noise and clumsy ways. He is accepted as the seventh samurai after revealing he was also a farmer, like the peasants of Kanna. He carries the largest of the swords, which also acts as a chainsaw. He is fiercely loyal to Kanbei, and, when given recognition, he returns favors fourfold. He is well liked by the villagers, especially by little Komachi, who asks him to become her husband when she grows up, a request that he accepts in return for her keeping his fake family tree. He is the last to be killed; he died protecting Kanna from the crashing capital. He shows his true determination and strength here, and proves himself to be a worthy samurai.

(シチロージ) Voiced by: Tohru Kusano (Japanese), Duncan Brannan (English) Shichiroji initially fought side by side in the Great War with Kanbei, and is often referred to as "Kanbei's old wife" ("mate" in the English dub). He temporarily leaves behind his successful post-war business at the Firefly Inn, and with it, his beautiful girlfriend/fiance, to join Kambei in battle once again. He has a prosthetic left hand which has a grappling hook capability with his index finger. In combat he uses a type of spear; the only samurai not using a sword. This is probably a reference to his using a spear mainly during the final battle in the original movie (though normally he carried a sword). His girlfriend, Yukino, has nicknamed him Momotaro, from the traditional Japanese tale, because she found him, badly injured after a battle, floating down a river inside a capsule reminiscent of a peach. He is the fourth samurai.

(ゴロベエ) Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese), Bob Carter (English) Gorobei is a skilled samurai who has made his living since the wars' end by entertaining people on the city streets. He is also a veteran of the Great War, so he knows Kanbei by reputation. He is very skilled at dodging blows and can pluck arrows and darts from the air. This ability was presumably based of the fact that in the original movie, Gorobei was able to sense (from a few feet outside the door) Katsushiro's waiting to hit him inside the hut. He often makes light of rather serious or dangerous situations. He is also quite smart, in his own unique way. He is the first to be killed when saving the rest of the samurai from bullet fire during the bandits' raid on Kanna. To him, all the world was a stage and the people merely players. He is the second samurai.

(カツシロウ) Voiced by: Romi Paku (Japanese), Sean Michael Teague (English) Katsushiro is a young and inexperienced samurai who wishes to be Kanbei's student, calling him sensei almost from their first meeting. He idolizes the principles of bushido. He promises to protect Kirara no matter what, and seems to be attracted to her. He grows stronger and more skillful throughout the series, eventually becoming a worthy student of Kambei; and he also comes to terms with killing enemies, after reacting in shock the first time. He becomes strong enough to deflect the capital's main cannon, and defeated numerous bandits all by himself. He gains emotional strength as well, and understands what his true reason for becoming a samurai is. After turning down Kirara in the end, he explains to her that he intends to continue his life on the battlefield. After hearing this, he receives Kanbei's sword from him in recognition as his student. Unlike in the original movie, he shows more focus on becoming a samurai and improving his skills greatly in the anime (where in the original he was preoccupied with a love affair). He is the fifth samurai.

(カンベエ) Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma (Japanese), R Bruce Elliott (English) Kambei is a wise samurai who has survived many battles, though he feels no joy from them. Many of his friends have died in those battles, and he was on the losing side of many of them. He constantly lives in the shadow of his painful and violent past, rejecting Kirara after stating that his heart is dried up. He leads the group during their battles and usually plans strategy. In the end, after understanding Katsushiro has become a successful samurai, he passes his sword onto him as he leaves Kanna village ahead of him and Shichirouji. He is the first samurai.

Voiced by: Toshiko Fujita (Japanese), Joshua Seth, Jason Spisak (Movie 4) (English) Taichi "Tai" Kamiya, known as Taichi Yagami (八神 太一 Yagami Taichi) in Japan, is adventurous, athletic, and charismatic and the main protagonist of Digimon Adventure, which easily makes him the leader of the DigiDestined. However, his aggressive, impulsive personality often puts him in danger. He eventually learns empathy and compassion are key to success instead of reckless courage. Back at his home in Odaiba, Tai is the star player on his school's soccer team. He is best friends with Sora Takenouchi. As revealed later in the series, Tai became a Digidestined as the result of him and his younger sister Kari caring for a hatched Botamon that eventually digivolved into a Greymon to protect them from a Parrotmon attacking Highton View Terrace. When he and the others first arrived in the Digital World, meeting their Digimon partners while fleeing from a Kuwagamon, Tai resolves to lead the group on their journey for civilization, generally blazing the trail. After the group gets separated by Devimon scattering File Island into fragments, Tai manages to befriend Frigimon, who takes them to another part of island where Matt and Gabumon are on before the two arrive to Primary Village to rejoin most of the others while protecting T.K. from Leomon before freeing him from the Black Gears' control. It was soon after that Tai and the others learn of their role as DigiDestined prior to their final battle with Devimon and before meeting Gennai who instructs them on the next phase of their adventure. Later making the journey from File Island to the Server Continent, Tai obtained the Crest of Courage during the group's initial confrontation with Etemon. The fact he was the first made Tai arrogant, his ambition to get Agumon to digivolve into ultimate form nearly getting everyone killed when Agumon became SkullGreymon. After Pixiemon restores his confidence by remembering while he learned to ride a bike, Tai manages to face his own fear to activate his Crest and digivolve Greymon to MetalGreymon before the two get sucked into a vortex that takes them to the boy's world. Returning, Tai learns from Kari that he has been gone for minutes in the real world. Eventually, Tai decides to return to find his friends who by then split up to find him. Managing to gather the group back together, Tai and the others learn of Myotismon's scheme to enter their world to find the Eighth DigiDestined and kill the child. Following after him and his forces, Tai manages to hide Agumon from his parents until Kari and Gatomon are respectively revealed to be the Eighth DigiDestined and her Digimon partner. After Myotismon captures Gatomon and proceeds to isolate Odaiba from the rest of Japan, Tai entrusted Kari to Matt while he attempts to rescue the trapped citizens before joining the others in fighting Myotismon. After a lengthly battle, finding the Digital World beginning to manifest in the sky, Tai and the others decide to go back to restore the balance, battling the Dark Masters and then Apocalymon. However, with Apocalymon's defeat, Tai and others are forced to leave the Digital World as it begins its restoration. In the sequel, Digimon Adventure 02, Tai matured became more patient, helping the new Digidestined whatever time allows him. He gives his trademark goggles to Davis Motomiya as a sign of leadership over the new generation of DigiDestined. During the events of Digimon Hurricane Landing!/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digimentals, edited out of Digimon: The Movie, Tai is among those captured by Wendigomon during his search for Willis and is de-aged until Davis and Willis defeat him. Tai is featured in supplementary audio dramas released on CD during the television series' run, most of which consist miscellaneous adventures with the other DigiDestined that do not relate to the overall plot of the show. These include a mystery adventure Tai and Sora go on and tap dancing to distract Boltmon on Valentine's Day. In an audio drama released years after the end of Digimon Adventure 02, which takes place between Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, Tai is heard talking to Agumon after a Digiport briefly opens. Tai makes an appearance in Digimon Xros Wars' third season, in his first season version, alongside Davis, Takato, Takuya, and Marcus. Tai's character was designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru. In an exclusive interview released with the Digimon Adventure DVD box on December 21, 2007, producer Satoru Nishizono revealed that as the staff decided on Tai's name using kanji that related to "luck." In Japan, all of Tai's appearances were voiced by Toshiko Fujita. In the English dub, Joshua Seth provides his voice. However, by the time the film Revenge of Diaboromon was dubbed in English, he had retired from the voice acting industry in 2005, causing casting director Jeff Nimoy to cast Jason Spisak as his replacement, remarking how similar he sounded to Seth. During the run of the television series Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, Tai was included in merchandise such as trading cards. In Japan, his character was also given three theme songs: "Yūki wo Tsubasa ni Shite" (勇気を翼にして), "Atarashī Taiyō" (新しい太陽), and "Towa ni Tsuzuke!" (永久に続け!!). All songs were performed by his voice actress, Toshiko Fujita. His character CD single, Atarashī Taiyō: Best Partner 1: Taichi Yagami & Agumon (新しい太陽 ベストパートナー① 八神太一&アグモン Atarashī Taiyō Besuto Pātonā 1 Yagami Taichi & Agumon), which also included Agumon's (Chika Sakamoto) solo "Agumon Ondo" (アグモンONDO) and their duet "Team", was released on June 21, 2000. It debuted at #77 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and stayed there for one week. In a series of online polls conducted on Toei Animation's Digimon website, Tai was ranked 3rd by Japanese voters as their favorite DigiDestined. When the same question was asked three more times, his rank fell to 6th, rose to 4th, and finally landed at 5th.
