| Voiced by: Toshiko Fujita (Japanese), Joshua Seth, Jason Spisak (Movie 4) (English) Taichi "Tai" Kamiya, known as Taichi Yagami (八神 太一 Yagami Taichi) in Japan, is adventurous, athletic, and charismatic and the main protagonist of Digimon Adventure, which easily makes him the leader of the DigiDestined. However, his aggressive, impulsive personality often puts him in danger. He eventually learns empathy and compassion are key to success instead of reckless courage. Back at his home in Odaiba, Tai is the star player on his school's soccer team. He is best friends with Sora Takenouchi. As revealed later in the series, Tai became a Digidestined as the result of him and his younger sister Kari caring for a hatched Botamon that eventually digivolved into a Greymon to protect them from a Parrotmon attacking Highton View Terrace. When he and the others first arrived in the Digital World, meeting their Digimon partners while fleeing from a Kuwagamon, Tai resolves to lead the group on their journey for civilization, generally blazing the trail. After the group gets separated by Devimon scattering File Island into fragments, Tai manages to befriend Frigimon, who takes them to another part of island where Matt and Gabumon are on before the two arrive to Primary Village to rejoin most of the others while protecting T.K. from Leomon before freeing him from the Black Gears' control. It was soon after that Tai and the others learn of their role as DigiDestined prior to their final battle with Devimon and before meeting Gennai who instructs them on the next phase of their adventure. Later making the journey from File Island to the Server Continent, Tai obtained the Crest of Courage during the group's initial confrontation with Etemon. The fact he was the first made Tai arrogant, his ambition to get Agumon to digivolve into ultimate form nearly getting everyone killed when Agumon became SkullGreymon. After Pixiemon restores his confidence by remembering while he learned to ride a bike, Tai manages to face his own fear to activate his Crest and digivolve Greymon to MetalGreymon before the two get sucked into a vortex that takes them to the boy's world. Returning, Tai learns from Kari that he has been gone for minutes in the real world. Eventually, Tai decides to return to find his friends who by then split up to find him. Managing to gather the group back together, Tai and the others learn of Myotismon's scheme to enter their world to find the Eighth DigiDestined and kill the child. Following after him and his forces, Tai manages to hide Agumon from his parents until Kari and Gatomon are respectively revealed to be the Eighth DigiDestined and her Digimon partner. After Myotismon captures Gatomon and proceeds to isolate Odaiba from the rest of Japan, Tai entrusted Kari to Matt while he attempts to rescue the trapped citizens before joining the others in fighting Myotismon. After a lengthly battle, finding the Digital World beginning to manifest in the sky, Tai and the others decide to go back to restore the balance, battling the Dark Masters and then Apocalymon. However, with Apocalymon's defeat, Tai and others are forced to leave the Digital World as it begins its restoration. In the sequel, Digimon Adventure 02, Tai matured became more patient, helping the new Digidestined whatever time allows him. He gives his trademark goggles to Davis Motomiya as a sign of leadership over the new generation of DigiDestined. During the events of Digimon Hurricane Landing!/Supreme Evolution! The Golden Digimentals, edited out of Digimon: The Movie, Tai is among those captured by Wendigomon during his search for Willis and is de-aged until Davis and Willis defeat him. Tai is featured in supplementary audio dramas released on CD during the television series' run, most of which consist miscellaneous adventures with the other DigiDestined that do not relate to the overall plot of the show. These include a mystery adventure Tai and Sora go on and tap dancing to distract Boltmon on Valentine's Day. In an audio drama released years after the end of Digimon Adventure 02, which takes place between Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, Tai is heard talking to Agumon after a Digiport briefly opens. Tai makes an appearance in Digimon Xros Wars' third season, in his first season version, alongside Davis, Takato, Takuya, and Marcus. Tai's character was designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru. In an exclusive interview released with the Digimon Adventure DVD box on December 21, 2007, producer Satoru Nishizono revealed that as the staff decided on Tai's name using kanji that related to "luck." In Japan, all of Tai's appearances were voiced by Toshiko Fujita. In the English dub, Joshua Seth provides his voice. However, by the time the film Revenge of Diaboromon was dubbed in English, he had retired from the voice acting industry in 2005, causing casting director Jeff Nimoy to cast Jason Spisak as his replacement, remarking how similar he sounded to Seth. During the run of the television series Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, Tai was included in merchandise such as trading cards. In Japan, his character was also given three theme songs: "Yūki wo Tsubasa ni Shite" (勇気を翼にして), "Atarashī Taiyō" (新しい太陽), and "Towa ni Tsuzuke!" (永久に続け!!). All songs were performed by his voice actress, Toshiko Fujita. His character CD single, Atarashī Taiyō: Best Partner 1: Taichi Yagami & Agumon (新しい太陽 ベストパートナー① 八神太一&アグモン Atarashī Taiyō Besuto Pātonā 1 Yagami Taichi & Agumon), which also included Agumon's (Chika Sakamoto) solo "Agumon Ondo" (アグモンONDO) and their duet "Team", was released on June 21, 2000. It debuted at #77 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and stayed there for one week. In a series of online polls conducted on Toei Animation's Digimon website, Tai was ranked 3rd by Japanese voters as their favorite DigiDestined. When the same question was asked three more times, his rank fell to 6th, rose to 4th, and finally landed at 5th. |

| Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano (Japanese), Bryce Papenbrook (English) Online Alias: "Bakyura" (バキュラ) A resident of Ikebukuro and Mikado Ryūgamine's best friend from childhood. He was the one who encouraged Mikado to come to Ikebukuro. He is enthusiastic about picking-up girls, but he seems to fail at it. He was depressed and lonely before Mikado arrived because his girlfriend was kidnapped and injured during a gang war between the Blue Squares and Yellow Scarves, which he led at the time during his middle school years. After Anri is injured during the Slasher incidents and the rising presence of the Dollars, he is forced to become the leader of the Yellow Scarves once more. Because he had once been the 'shogun (leader)' of the Yellow Scarves, he possesses a talent in fighting- it has also been implied that he had taken down countless gangs single handedly during his 'shogun' years. He despises Orihara Izaya for manipulating him when he first formed the Yellow Scarves, but returns to him again for information about the leader of the Dollars and discovers it is Mikado. He leaves Ikebukuro with his ex-girlfriend, Saki Mikajima, during the conflict between the 3 main forces in Ikebukuro. Masaomi has commented on not letting Mikado "go to the dark side", claiming that he has already gone through it. He returns in Volume 7, but fails to face Mikado when he witnesses Mikado confessing to Chikage that he is actually the founder of Dollars - but Chikage doesn't believe this, of course. | |

| Voiced by: Rina Satō The 'youngest daughter' of the Midarezaki family. She is a jellyfish, however, she is able to do things that are unusual for a normal jellyfish such as writing letters, changing her body's color according to her feelings or shooting lightning as an attack. The sub-director of Supernatural Phenomenon Treatment Bureau's operation department went fishing, caught her and DNA-tested her for fun, and it turned out that a mere jellyfish actually has Enka's DNA, so she became a member of 'Cozy Family Operation'. Her real name is 'Warave' (ワラビー) and her exact age is unknown (although she mentions having lived for over 1,000 years in the third episode of the anime). She has various other forms which she takes from time to time, such as the giant Kraken who is summoned by speaking her name. Occasionally a dark-haired female with crescent-shaped insignia, dressed in a manner of Heian period, appears in the book, and it is believed by some family members that she is Gekka. This form of her was introduced in the sixth episode of the anime, where she scolds her family for leaving her behind before sending them all home from a deserted island. The family have no recollection of this occurring due to Gekka have wiped their memory. It is later discovered that she is actually the god of the planet Ocean, which, as its name suggests, is an entire planet covered in water. She created a water-like species from her own body because she was the only living being on that planet. She left the planet when Gouyokuou came to her planet wishing for her hand in marriage. At first she turned him down but after he came again she told him she would give him an answer in a thousand years. In the end after stopping Water from destroying her family, she explains that when Gouyokuou first came to her she was scared as he was the first species she met that wasn't made from her and told him she would answer him in 1000 years as a way to run away. However, before she sends Gouyokuou off into space, she agrees that she will marry him. |

| Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa The nine-year old eldest daughter (the second daughter after the end of the first book); comes from 'Demon's Family' (鬼の一家 Oni no Ichi Zoku) Himemiya, she was continuously abused by her family according to their tradition called "Solitary Doll", especially by her biological sister. The point of Solitary Doll is to beat and abuse the weakest (usually the youngest) member of the family to relieve stress. Despite her past, she has a very calm and gentle personality. Originally named Reiko Himemiya (姫宮 零子 Himemiya Reiko), she now lives her life as a elementary school girl and is friends with a fellow student. This friend, Yamamoto, tries to bribe her with pudding (hinting that it might be her favorite food) to help him with his test. She also has a strong attachment to her father Ōka as she likes it when he compliments her on how cute she looks, with sometimes the first question she asks being, "Do you think Father will think I'm cute in it?". Related to this dependency, she is the one most anxious about Ōka leaving the family – from joining in odd family schemes to drinking all the water in the house to dehydrate an alien who showed romantic interest in Ōka. |

He lost his parents at the age of three, and has no memory before then. He is also the head of the operations department of 'Supernatural Phenomenon Treatment Bureau' (超常現象対策局 Chōjyō Genjō Taisakukyoku). | The Midarezaki family "mother". She is 20 years old, however, she has an appearance of a little girl with cat ears and a tail. Her real name is 'Kyoukya Eaeriaea', and she used to be worshiped by the people of an underground kingdom named 'Shangri-la', however, she ran away because she felt something was missing from her life. She is from a race of demons that uses other people's bodies as theirs, and that she used to be their queen before deciding to abandon her people and live as a human with gorgeous black hair, deep green eyes, and as tall as Ōka. However because her secret cannot be discovered, her memories as a demon were erased. Her name as the demon queen was Vanessa. Due to her past of being worshiped, she has a very arrogant and destructive nature, but despite her personality, she actually cares about her family and is trying to do her best as Ōka's wife and loves him dearly, getting very jealous when she found out Ōka went out with another woman and tries to have a husband and wife relationship (sadly she gets all her ideas from manga and her soap operas, leading to embarrassing situations for Ōka). At the end she is last seen heading back to Shangri-la to find out who she was, leaving many of her mini-dolls with her family for company. She has an ability named 'Keitai Denwa (携帯電話, lit. cell phone), which allows her to manipulate a person's mind or to control a set of mini-dolls that help her when necessary (in the fifth episode of the anime, she also uses this ability to communicate telepathically with Yūka). She is also a very bad cook (where in episode 15 after making an anniversary cake there was bullet holes, voodoo dolls and knives into the wall), where her meals frighten everyone in the family (giving an ominous glow to the food or bringing it to life) and has a strange habit of naming certain people around her with weird names, stating that they should be proud of a name given to them by a god. Ironically, even though she is the mother of the family, she is also the shortest member as well (except when Gekka is in her jellyfish form). | |
