Kagura

Kagura (神楽) is a creation of Naraku's, his second "detachment" although she is introduced before her "elder sister" Kanna. A wind sorceress, Kagura uses a fan to enhance her powers; she can create a blade-like tornado or use wind to animate dead bodies. She can also use her feather hair-ornaments as transportation, enlarging them to ride in the wind. Kagura hates Naraku and wishes to be free from him, covertly opposing him to the point of offering aid to both InuYasha and Sesshomaru in hopes that they can kill him.
After Kohaku's memories return, Kagura becomes increasingly protective of the boy: she shares information with him about Naraku's weaknesses; she thwarts her fellow "detachment" Hakudōshi from taking the Shikon shard that keeps Kohaku alive; finally, she openly defies Naraku by helping Kohaku escape. Naraku mockingly returns her heart before fatally wounding her and leaving her to die. While tracking Naraku, Sesshomaru finds her dying; she seems happy to see him, although his sword Tenseiga cannot save her. InuYasha's group also arrives, helplessly watching her body dissolve into the wind. Afterwards, InuYasha asks if she suffered; Sesshomaru replies that she was smiling when she died. In the anime adaptation, Kagura's death is never shown as the series ends before the manga.

Kagome Higurashi

Kagome Higurashi (日暮 かごめ, ひぐらしかごめ, Higurashi Kagome) is one of the main protagonists of the series. Born in modern Japan as the spiritual reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo, Kagome has the Shikon Jewel unknowingly hidden inside her body until 1997, when a demon named Mistress Centipede pulls her into the Bone Eater's Well and 500 years back through time. They emerge in the Feudal Era about 50 years after Kikyo's death, where the demon extracts the jewel from Kagome. Kagome takes over the task of protecting the Shikon Jewel from evil influences, but accidentally shatters it into numerous shards that disperse throughout the country. She shares many traits with Kikyo, such as their spiritual powers and abilities, physical appearance and (according to Inuyasha) even a similar scent. However, she does not retain Kikyo's memories and in comparison to Kikyo's personality, is a very different individual.

Kaede

Kaede is a minor character in the Manga and Anime of InuYasha, in the story she provides advice and backgrounds for the story to progress.

Kaede(楓) is Kikyo's younger sister and assists her with various tasks such as gathering herbs or holding her arrows. Kaede also travels with Kikyo to a priest's shrine to learn to be a priestess.
Kaede loses an eye sometime during her life. In the manga, her eye appears to be freshly bandaged and bleeding shortly before Kikyo's death, suggesting that the wound occurs when Inuyasha attacks the village to steal the Shikon Jewel; supplementary information states that she "lost her elder sister and her eye in an incident fifty years ago." The anime simply says that she lost it during a demon attack on the village.

Jakotsu

Jakotsu (蛇骨, Jakotsu?)is the second strongest of the Band of Seven and the third in command. He was a close friend of Bankotsu even before the group's formation and Jakotsu is the only person Bankotsu trusts. His chief weapon, the Snake Sword or Jakotsutou, has segmented retractable blades that curves out across a great distance, making it difficult for an opponent to calculate his next move. Jakotsu is depicted acting in a homosexual manner, such as admiring Koga's loincloth and claiming to have feelings for InuYasha, but because of his sadistic qualities, he basically wants to kill them in what he considers to be an affectionate way and cut off his dog ears.
Jakotsu loses a lengthy battle to InuYasha and is badly wounded, giving Renkotsu the opportunity to steal his Shikon shard. As he dies from the shard's removal, Jakotsu says he is happy because he got to fight the battle he wanted and he had fun with his second chance in life. Bankotsu later avenges his friend's death by killing Renkotsu.

Grandpa Higurashi

Kagome's grandfather. He is often covering for Kagome's absences at school with interesting excuses, which make Kagome's friends worry a lot about her.

Grandpa is identified by his clothing as a traditional Japanese Shinto Priest, apparently the current custodian/gaurdian/caretaker/owner of the Higurashi Shrine ( 日暮神社 ) which has been in the family for generations.

Grandpa continually tries to inject some education of the history of the family shrine into everyday life - even to the point of discussing the "history of these pickles" much to Kagome's dismay.

Grandpa maintains the shrine grounds, buildings, the sacred tree, handles offerings, and the various Shinto religious ceremonies that are required. He tries to bring in some income to pay the bills by selling various religious paraphanalia, such as the Sacred Jewel key chains (日暮神社 四魂の玉 キ一ホルダ一 ).

He is skilled in handling objects brought to him that need to be blessed, cleansed, or sealed. We find that his abilities save him from death in episode 11, "Terror of the Ancient Noh Mask". But Grandpa's powers are clearly overcome by Inuyasha as he breaks through Grandpa's Ofuda - or "written oracles" in episode 4 "Yura of the Demon-Hair". Although this Could be Because Inuyasha is only half-demon; it could also be because his chrams don't work at all.

Bankotsu

Bankotsu (蛮骨, Ban Hone) is the leader of the Band of Seven. Both the youngest and strongest member of the group, he carries the halberd Banryu. Bankotsu is a skilled mercenary and has killed many people; he retains a sense of honor and compassion, but only for his six companions.
After his resurrection, Bankotsu uses Banryu to kill everyone in the surrounding area. The scent of blood draws Inuyasha's group to engage in battle until Naraku summons the Band of Seven back to him. During the fight, Banryu is damaged by Inuyasha's "Kaze no Kizu" attack, but it gains the ability to deflect that attack after Bankotsu repairs it with the Jewel shards Renkotsu stole from Kagome. After learning that Renkotsu murdered Jakotsu for his Jewel shards, Bankotsu kills Renkotsu for his betrayal. With seven fragments in his body and two in his halberd, Bankotsu heads off to destroy Inuyasha.

In the manga, Inuyasha gradually cuts the Shikon Jewel shards out of Bankotsu's body as the battle progresses until Bankotsu is cut in two, with Naraku stripping the remaining half of its Shikon shard. In the anime, Bankotsu slays 1,000 yōkai and kills 1,000 humans with Banryu, transforming it into a demonic weapon that projects its wielder's hatred as powerful yoki. However, this proves to be his downfall as Inuyasha reflects this attack with the Bakuryūha, defeating Bankotsu and shattering Banryū.

Good Suikotsu

Suikotsu (睡骨, Suikotsu?) is a member of the Band of Seven.

Suikotsu has two, definite split personalities. One, a gentle, philanthropist doctor who looks after orphans; the other is a sadistic, Wolverine-appearance killer that earns him his spot in the Band of Seven. When his evil side takes hold he seems to possess a dry sense of humor and a insatiable desire for blood, while when his good side is in control he often hallucinates that he has blood on his hands. He may have a third personality, as shown after he falls off a rope-bridge; this personality seems to be a combination of his other two. Doctor Suikotsu develops a close, empathic relationship with Kikyo, and some fans speculate it bordered on romantic attraction.

When his evil side is in control, he has six green tiger-like markings on the edge of his face. The markings are strikingly similar to what a general evil character has painted on their face in Japanese opera.

Ayame

Ayame (菖蒲, Iris ) is the granddaughter of the Northern wolf tribe leader, Yōrōzoku. Ayame first appears in episode 83 "The Female Wolf-Demon and the Lunar Rainbow Promise." She was once saved by Koga as a little girl and was promised marriage when she got older. She later grows up and comes after Koga, saying that since he now has jewel shards, he is worthy of ruling her wolf clan. She is very persistent, and tries to use force several times on him. When Koga says (as a way to get rid of her) that he will only marry a woman who can sense the Shikon Jewel shards, she announces that she will train herself to sense them like Kagome (though Miroku makes it clear that it is probably impossible). In the last episode of Inuyasha: The Final Act, Ayame and Koga are finally married and Koga becomes the chief of the Wolf Demon Tribe.
