Renji Abarai (阿散井 恋次, Abarai Renji) is the lieutenant of the 6th Division in the Gotei 13 under Captain Byakuya Kuchiki. Renji is about as eccentric as any other Shinigami. He varies from smug and cocky to disquieted and depressed after his major defeats, but shows himself to be an incredibly serious and determined fighter when confronted with an actual challenge. Willing to fight, kill, and die for whatever he believes in, Renji is a dangerous man to those who stand in his way. Yasutora Sado compares him to Ichigo Kurosaki when fighting. Renji likes taiyaki (a popular fish-shaped pancake usually filled with sweet bean paste) and dislikes spicy food. Renji likes futsal, and in his free time works on assembling a team from the 6th Division, with success, more or less. The current members are himself, Rikichi and the 4th, 8th, 13th and 20th seated officers. All of Renji's sunglasses are from Seireitei's popular "Silver Dragonfly Glasses Store" and cost half a year's worth of his paycheck. However, every time he wears a pair, they are broken in one way or another. On these occasions, he replaces them with a tied white towel, until he can purchase a new pair of goggles. His dream is to once wear a pair that he has designed himself. He also looks for them in the Human World as evidenced in the latest Shinigami diary though he has no sense of fashion since he took some of the heart-shaped and star-shaped variety.

Ichigo Kurosaki (黒崎 一護, Kurosaki Ichigo) is a Human who also has Shinigami powers. He is the son of Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki, and older brother of Karin and Yuzu. He is the main protagonist of the Bleach series. When he was young, Ichigo considered his mother to be the center of his world. Ichigo always smiled whenever he was with Masaki and he was regularly at her side, holding her hand. Despite crying whenever he lost in a match at the dojo he attended, Ichigo started to smile again as soon as he saw Masaki when she came to pick him up. At a very young age, Ichigo heard his father saying that his name means "to protect one thing", which instilled in him a desire to protect his mother. When his sisters were born he began attending a dojo for the sake of protecting them, since then the number of people he wished to protect has continued to grow, causing Ichigo to risk his life to protect both his family and strangers. As a Human teenager, Ichigo's personality is much more complex. Stubborn, short-tempered, strong-willed and impulsive, he attempts to maintain a detached and "cool" image, despite claiming not to care about what other people think about him. He generally keeps his face set in a permanent scowl, with his eyebrows drawn together. His outspoken, hot-headed demeanor is a trait Ichigo himself acknowledged, and that if somebody picks a fight with him, he cannot help fighting back. He coldly refers to his teachers as “instructors”. He is shown to be genuinely compassionate and empathetic about others, as seen by him promising to bring a Plus flowers and a toy plane or soothing others when they become upset. Ichigo is also a capable student, ranked 23rd in his high school. He studies regularly and does not neglect his schoolwork, claiming that he has "nothing better to do at home", though he actually works as hard as he does simply to overcome the misconceptions many have about him, which are based on his hair color and fighting. Ichigo hates fortune telling, horoscopes, fengshui, psychics and anyone whose trade involves taking money from people for things that they cannot see. He has difficulty remembering people's faces and names. Ichigo becomes extremely shy and uncomfortable around nude or immodestly dressed women, a fact both Rangiku Matsumoto and Yoruichi Shihōin have teased him for. Ichigo has some trouble with authority and traditional respect, often quite rude and disrespectful when talking to those older than himself, calling Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto "gramps" and referring to several of the Shinigami captains by their given names. When it comes to fighting, Ichigo has a complex sense of honor; he regularly seeks to exact revenge for the actions of his opponent, such as instilling the fear of being murdered in Shrieker and cutting off the right arm of Yammy Riyalgo in retaliation for him ripping Yasutora Sado's right arm apart. He would often taunt and belittle his opponents when fighting, sometimes even attacking without warning. Ichigo has a strong desire to win his fights and to win them in what he views as a legitimate manner. To this end, he has refused the aid of his inner Hollow, even when knowing that it would allow him to win. Similarly, after regaining control of his body, he tells Ulquiorra to cut off his limbs so that they may have a fair fight and refuses to kill him when he is dying; saying that it was not the way he wanted to win. Ichigo has even shown that he despises those who mistreat their allies in any way, even if they are his own enemies. He is disgusted when an individual berates his/her own allies, such as when Yammy calls Ulquiorra Cifer, Nnoitra Jiruga, and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez "trash".. He also expresses anger towards those who go as far as attacking their own allies, expressing that he cannot forgive those who murder their own comrades. Despite Ichigo's strong sense of honor, his will to win can waiver at times, which directly affects his overall energy levels and fighting abilities. His absolute resolve is depicted by his eyes glowing bright blue and his body being engulfed in a bright blue aura. The same is included with his Hollow powers, in which his eyes glow yellow and his aura turns black. Ichigo’s abilities at their peak allow him to hold his own, if not contend, against the toughest opponents. His will to protect his friends is shown to be so great that, even when battle-worn, he can fight at deceptively high levels, as seen when he effortlessly caught Grimmjow’s punch when in his released state. However, at the same time, his lack of resolve to win can also impede his spiritual energy and fighting prowess, shown when he goes into a state of depression and self-loathing when he loses a major battle or lets a friend down; after losing his fight against Yammy and Ulquiorra, thanks to the crippling fear of his inner Hollow, Ichigo's will became so weak, he was unable to even defeat a weak Hollow until Rukia helped restore his resolve.

Kiyone Kotetsu (虎徹 清音, Kotetsu Kiyone) is the co-3rd seated officer/acting lieutenant of the Thirteenth Division in the Gotei 13 under Captain Jūshirō Ukitake, sharing her position with Sentarō Kotsubaki. Kiyone is the younger sister of Isane Kotetsu, the Lieutenant of the Fourth Division (the medical and supply relief division). Unlike her sister, Kiyone is very open and excitable but she does share Isane's sense of loyalty. She holds her captain, Jūshirō Ukitake in high regard and always tries to impress him in any way possible, even if she has to ruin her partner Sentarō Kotsubaki to do so. Like other female Shinigami she is a member of the Shinigami Women's Association. Kiyone's infatuation with her Captain is often a source of comic relief, as she frequently engages in competition with Sentaro over who admires and/or loves him more, much to Ukitake's exasperation. In one omake chapter, she is even willing to help Soifon pin Ukitake to a tree with kunai knives and slash open his clothing so she can have "sexy" photos of him, although she does jabber "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" while she photographs him.

Senna (茜雫, Senna) is a character from the movie Bleach: Memories of Nobody. She is a young Shinigami that Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki meet in the Human World. She is also the main female protagonist of the movie. Senna likes the color red and high places. She's also very curious, constantly darting from place to place. Although she is haunted by brief, randomly-appearing memories of "her" past, Senna generally exhibits a spunky, upbeat, and carefree personality. As stated by Ichigo, Senna is additionally strong-willed, stubborn, loyal, and somewhat outspoken. Near the end of the movie, when Senna is about to sacrifice herself and Ichigo attempts to stop her, she states that she'd rather sacrifice herself than see Ichigo die, implying that she may have developed romantic feelings towards Ichigo during the time that they spent together. The same might be said for Ichigo, as when he went to a store to buy Senna's trademark red ribbon, the female clerk questioned if it was a "present for his girlfriend", to which he slightly blushed at that query and quickly dismissed it ("not quite" being his reply in the original Japanese version; he insists that she was his "sister" in the English dub). She also went into a brief state of depression when she assumed that Ichigo was killed during his first battle with the film's main villain, Ganryū, after witnessing Ganryū impale Ichigo with his spear.

Arturo Plateado (アルトゥロ・プラチアド, Aruturo Purateado; Spanish for "Silver Arthur") is an Arrancar designed by Sega, in conjunction with Tite Kubo, specifically for the video game Bleach: Shattered Blade. Arturo Plateado is a both calculating strategist and a ruthless warrior, with an unrivaled lust for power. This aspect of his personality is reflected by his Zanpakutō's unique ability to absorb the spiritual pressure of anyone he kills to strengthen himself, a power so terrible that even captain-level Shinigami have been known to flee before his might. He sees defeat as a sign of weakness and displays an outright refusal to accept it, even rising again in an injured state to resume the battle. In both games in which he appears, Arturo is portrayed as possessing a level of confidence bordering on arrogance, even going as far to attack the Soul Society single-handedly. Even after making a deal with Aizen, he strongly implies a desire to murder the former Shinigami Captain twice.

Death the Kid (デス・ザ・キッド, Desu za Kiddo) commonly called "Kid" (キッド, Kiddo) by his friends and family, is one of the three main meisters that the series follows. He is Patti and Liz's meister and Shinigami-sama's son. Kid suffers from obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, or OCPD, which is represented as an obsession about everything having to be perfectly symmetrical and takes the idea of perfection to the extremes. To him, anything symmetrical is beautiful and if it is off by any measurement (a picture frame off by millimeter, or a pose that is slightly out of place), he will try to correct it right away, even if the situation calls for utmost attention. His favorite number being 8 because of its symmetry. He is so obsessed with symmetry that Kid refuses to fight a battle unless he has both Patty and Liz together as they would not be symmetrical apart. The biggest problem Kid has is with his hair, because the left half of his bangs are marked with three white stripes. He has attempted to dye his hair all black to cover his asymmetric Sanzu Lines; however, due to his body being that of a Shinigami, it rejects the hair dye and soon returns to normal. Showing Kid anything that is too asymmetrical or mentioning his hair will send him into a state of massive depression, which normally takes encouragement from Patti and Liz to break. As shown in episode 3, or Chapter 0.3, because the Pharaoh's coffin was symmetrical Kid wouldn't fight back, because he would ruin the symmetry. In the most extreme of cases, Kid will cough up blood and faint; this is usually set off by his hair being cut, or completely failing to make something symmetrical. If he sees anything perfect or symmetrical get broken or destroyed, or an opponent who is not symmetrical, it will send him into a blind rage (surprisingly similar to his father's previous violent personality) where he will unload all of his power to erase the offensive sight or cause of the destruction from his eyes. It is also because of his obsessive-compulsive personality disorder that Kid finds Liz and Patty's weapon forms much more appealing than their human forms. Because Kid was born a Shinigami it was never required that he train a weapon, and he was offered many partnerships in the form of arranged marriage although he rejected them all, purely because using any of them would break his symmetry. However, his obsessive-compulsive outbursts aside, Kid is actually quite serious and sophisticated, and can be quite cool-headed in battle if the concept of symmetry doesn't enter his mind. Despite his prim and proper attitude, he does exhibit a few boyish characteristics from time to time, like when he is chasing after the runaway express in the desert, and he chooses to do skateboard tricks on the sand dunes whilst doing so, and he is quite happy to play basketball along with the rest of his team. He also cares for his friends, as he is seen expressing concern about Soul's scar at one point, and also threatens Gopher that he will never forgive him if he hurts Maka. It is mentioned by Maka that it is normally hard to match soul wavelengths with more than one weapon, but Kid is able to do so because he, Liz, and Patti have a mutual admiration for each other. Kid admires Patti and Liz's positive souls due to his negative personality. His father has mentioned that Kid is a shinigami and does not need to collect souls, but Kid says he wants to make a weapon of his own. His father also says that since he uses two weapons and the guns do not count as a set, he will have to collect twice as many souls: 198 evil kishin eggs and two witch souls instead of 99 souls and one witch soul.

Yumi Azusa (弓梓, Yumi Azusa) is the Death scythe in charge of East Asia. Yumi appears to be both bookish and analytical in her mannerisms but always very respectful towards everyone. She still treats the others that attended Shibusen with her as little kids like a teacher would (clapping to get their attention and telling them to line up and walk in a single file line), much to the embarrassment of the others.

Tsubaki Nakatsukasa (中務 椿, Nakatsukasa Tsubaki), the Demon Weapon, is Black☆Star's partner. She can change into multiple ninja weapons, including the chain scythe/kusarigama, shuriken, smoke bomb, and eventually the uncanny sword. Like her brother, she is a member of the Nakatsukasa clan. She has a very magnanimous and gentle personality and always tries to help everyone even when she has no idea how to help. She is caring and understanding and sometimes acts as the mediator when her friends fight. Tsubaki's soul is "very co-operative and has a lot of space to accept people" as said by Dr. Stein. She deeply cares for her friends and prefers to avoid unnecessary conflict, usually being the one who diffuses any arguments between people. She is also generous and kind-hearted, up to the point that some people even take advantage of her (Liz does this twice, once in the anime when she asks her to do an essay for her and another time when Liz pretends she cooked Tsubaki's food in order to impress a boy she likes). One of the most mature and flexible characters, Tsubaki is very amicable and gets along well with her peers and can be very understanding of their feelings. Despite being on the calm and accepting side, she still knows where to draw a line, and can be as punishing as Maka when her partner does something inappropriate (her usual retaliation is throwing a shuriken into Black Star's head, resulting in a gush of blood). Due to her overall serious nature, she still shows some dismay and shock alongside Maka when the other characters do something ridiculous. She does seem to suffer from a degree of self-doubt and low esteem however, although she prefers to hide this from people. It is shown that she has a secret fear that Black Star would abandon her for another partner and refers herself as a 'scentless flower' when fighting Masamune. However, when the situation calls for it, Tsubaki can be almost as determined and spirited as Black Star. She comes from an established family of Weapons descending from a Weapon created by one of Arachne's younger sisters, Medusa. Though younger than her brother, Masamune, she was given the bulk of the family transformation ability. Masamune grew extremely jealous of this, and thus became a bitter enemy, whom she volunteered to face. She also seems to have a talent for cooking, having been complimented on a few occasions by her friends. During "Salvage" it is revelead that she and Liz are the two most lustful members of Spartoi as they stayed in opposite gender form longer than anyone else. In chapter 75 it became evident that she was the more lustful one,as she stayed boy a few seconds longer than Liz, something she was very embarrassed about.

[left] Patricia "Patti" Thompson (パティー(パトリシア)・トンプソン, Patī (Patorishia) Tonpuson) also spelled "Patty" in some translations is one half of Death the Kid's Demon Twin Guns. She is the younger of the two sisters, and the more naïve. Patti mostly speaks in a sing-song voice, acting and speaking like a little kid. She says "hullo" and "sowwy", like how a child says "hello" and "sorry". She is so naïve and simple-minded that she thinks everything is all fun and games and she does not take anything seriously. While taking an important written exam, instead of answering questions, she began drawing and coloring a giraffe. Her current personality differs from the seemingly aggressive personality she had during her time in Brooklyn, developing her current personality after she met Kid. Unlike her sister, Patti enjoys the drama brought on by Kid's perfectionist attitude, though she does cheer him up when he gets down on himself about it. On the few occasions when she loses her temper, her childlike persona is replaced by a somewhat psychotic-seeming anger, as if her personality reverted back into her past street life in Brooklyn. There have been times though, that Patti's childishly naive personality disappears to make room for a more serious personality, suggesting that her bubble-like personality may be a front, or merely how she wants to act. These changes are more evident in the manga, recent example of which was seen after Kid got 'collected' by Noah. Patti uncharacteristically called her sister a coward when she refused to fight Noah, and showed a surprising maturity by comforting her sister afterward. [right] Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson (リズ(エリザベス)・トンプソン, Rizu (Erizabesu) Tonpuson) is the elder sister of Patricia Thompson and one of Death the Kid's Demon Twin Guns. While Patti is very child-like, Liz is more like a teenage girl (worried about makeup, shopping, etc). Despite mostly being the cool-headed and serious of the sisters, she is shown to be extremely afraid of ghosts (and everything else), convinced that any ghost she meets is out to eat her (where her paranoia severely irritates the ghosts that are trying to help her). She can also be a little cynical and shallow, and sometimes takes advantage of other people for her own gains, like when she pretends that Tsubaki's cooking is her own to impress a boy she likes. She can be flirtatious and can also be charming to men, mostly in order to decieve them (which is shown when she tricks Giriko alongside Patti). Both Liz and Patti admire Kid's dignified soul due to the fact that they are from the streets. Unlike Patti, Liz finds the drama brought on by Kid's perfectionist attitude annoying. Also, Patti adores her and thinks that Liz knows everything. She is the older and more mature of the two sisters. Kid's obsession with symmetry and how he'll sometimes let it control his life sometimes gets on her nerves and she frequently reprimands Kid for this, although she won't hesitate to cheer him up when he is depressed. She also displays some courage and determination whenever her friends are in danger, and tries her best to protect them.

Soul Eater Evans (ソウル・イーター・エヴァンス, Sōru Ītā Evansu) or just 'Soul' to his friends, is Maka's Demon Scythe partner. He is the main male protagonist and Weapon of the series. Currently he is a Death Scythe and a member of Spartoi. At the start of the series, Soul's personality is laid-back and nonchalant, as he tries to mold himself to his expectations of how someone 'cool' would act. He is almost the complete opposite to Maka, being calm, reserved and aloof. He often expresses how he feels about some situations by either claiming that something is 'cool' or 'not cool.' Being a supposedly cool guy, he prefers to use the direct approach which most of the time fails (although after maturing, he no longer does this). He has a unique love for eating souls that seems to not be shared by many of the other Weapons, drooling quite frequently when his next meal is nearby. He also seems to be a glutton towards food in general. He can sometimes become too driven by the thought of eating souls, which leads him to bicker with Maka or become impatient with her, but despite their squabbles, they are always able to maintain a solid friend-partner relationship. He is also friends with Black Star because of their similar personalities, but at the same time they cannot match their Wavelengths. He is slightly immature, being headstrong, stubborn, apathetic to most things and argumentative. He also has a strong weakness towards women, as he bursts into a nosebleed without fail every time he sees Blair naked. He is also a slacker that likes to find an easier way out of situations, shown when he attempts to cheat in a DWMA exam. However, one thing he has gained from all the years of being 'cool' is he is possibly one of the most loyal people one could possibly meet, especially since breaking promises and changing sides 'isn't at all cool in the least.' Deep down, he is always looking out for his friends, and is even willing to sacrifice himself in order to protect his partner, Maka, showing his bravery and dedication. Despite his usual unenthusiastic appearance, he proves to be actually quite determined, and he also helps people get back on their feet when they are at a loss. He is also quick-thinking and cunning at times. After the rise of Asura, however, Soul's personality greatly matures (mostly because of his awareness that he must grow stronger to combat the strong insanity released into the world), and his stubborn and headstrong demeanor is replaced by a more cool-headed and serious one. He remains remarkably calm and composed no matter how dire the situation is and has impressively deep insight on various situations and people, often noticing important points no one else had thought of. He also shows a good deal of sense and judgment, which is well-respected by his peers. He begins to show more awareness and understanding towards people, up until the point that he even lectures some of the other characters when they are too stubborn to see some situations clearly, although he sometimes thinks it best to leave people to figure things out on their own. Since he is infected by the Black Blood, he runs the risk of being overcome by madness. Because of Soul's constant grapple with the Black Blood and Little Ogre inside his soul, he has a good degree of self-control as well, and rarely gives in to his emotions. He has demonstrated extremely strong willpower, being able to hold onto both his and Maka's sanity whilst using the Black Blood against Crona. He still has a compassionate side, proving to be a good loyal friend to others, and is still willing to do anything he can to protect his Meister. However, he seems to suffer from low esteem and is not confident in himself. He is saddened of his inferiority to "Weapons" like Justin and Giriko and cringes at the thought of his brother, Wes, who is a superior musician to him. He also conflicts frequently with Little Ogre in his mind. He keeps most of these problems to himself, and seems reluctant to share his problems with others, which sometimes makes him appear harsh and almost cold. He is mostly seen frowning or scowling, and most of his smiles are somewhat sarcastic. He is rather pessimistic, and is slightly aloof and detached from others, and he admits that he shares Crona's fear of bonding with people. At the DWMA anniversary party, he is seen outside on the balcony by himself rather than with the others, and does not tell Maka of his Black Blood infection and his dreams of Little Ogre, although this is mainly because he does not want to worry her. He still has a kind-hearted side, although he shows this side the most to Maka. In the first chapter of Lust in the Book of Eibon, Soul's personality undergoes a bit of a change to suit his switched gender. Although sarcastic as he usually is, he is also a little stuck-up and haughty, and his behavior goes on to annoy his partner, Maka. His personality returns to normal after leaving the first chapter. He quickly reverts to his true male appearance alongside Maka, which means he does not possess much lustful thoughts (which is ironic because of his constant nosebleeds upon seeing Blair's naked body). Soul playing the PianoSoul also has a talent for playing the piano. His Meister, Maka, reveals that when they first met he played a dark song for her on the piano. Apart from this however, he is reluctant to play in front of people as he 'doesn't know what he's capable of.' The reason for his talents with the piano is that he comes from a family of musicians. His brother, Wes, is a famous violinist. However, Soul wanted to break off from his family tradition of being a musician. When he found out that he was a distant descendant of weapons, he used his ability as a scapegoat in order to leave his family. Soul also claims that the songs he plays on the piano are ones of madness. However, his love of music still remains, and he seems to open up a little when it comes to music. He has good musical taste, and personally seems to like jazz music. When Stein sees his soul, he evaluates that Soul has a, 'twisted and sarcastic soul.' Soul sometimes shows a dark and sarcastic sense of humour, that usually annoys most people, especially Maka.
