Seijuurou Hiko

On a full moon night, a wandering swordsman with a white cape with red trim happened on the scene of a massacre. Moving with speed beyond human comprehension, he killed all the bandits, but saw that he had been too late to save any of the people they had been accosting, that is until he set eyes on a tiny boy with red hair. Hiko told the boy that hating the bandits wouldn't bring his family back and that he should leave that place and go to a village where he would likely be taken care of, then left. A day or two later, Hiko returned to the scene of the massacre to bury the bodies, only to discover that the tiny boy had already done so and even buried the bandits who had killed his friends. Hiko was amazed by the generosity of the child's heart and took him as his apprentice then and there.

For four years, Hiko wisely and patiently instructed the boy in his sword style, Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu. One day though, the boy declared that he was leaving the mountains to become a champion of the downtrodden in the world below. Hiko tried to talk the boy out of, telling him that a sword style as powerful as theirs would distort human affairs by guaranteeing victory to whichever side the boy fell in with. Hiko's words fell on deaf ears in in the end, the boy left to profane the sword style he had been taught in the way he saw fit.

At first, Hiko received news of his former student's exploits during the Bakumatsu Revolution, hearing that the boy had fallen in with the revolutionaries and become an assassin. After the war ended, ten years passed with no further news and Hiko banished all thought of the boy from his heart. One day, over a decade later however, the boy, now a man, showed up out of the blue and asked Hiko to continue his training so he could fight a new enemy that threatened all of Japan. Hiko was left to make a choice, take the little ingrate back in and retrain him or show him the door.

Yahiko Myojin

Descended from a long line of Tokyo samurai, Myojin Yahiko is proud of his lineage. However, as a poor orphan, he has to live shamefully as a pickpocket for the Shuei yakuza. One day, Yahiko tries to pick the pocket of a swordsman with red hair and cruciform scar. When the swordsman takes pity on Yahiko and gives him his wallet, Yahiko throws it back in disgust and declares that as the descendant of samurai, he needs no charity from strangers.

Later on, Yahiko tells the yakuza that he no longer wants to be their pickpocket. This goes as well as one can imagine it would and Yahiko winds up being beaten up badly. Just as he's about to be killed, the red haired swordsman shows up and saves him. Yahiko is then taken to a kendo dojo and made the first student of Kamiya Kasshin Ryu under Kamiya Kaoru, whom he affectionately refers to as "busu" or "ugly hag."

Yahiko proves to be something of a genius and is soon able to mimic some of Kenshings Mitsurugi moves just by watching Kenshin in action. His goal is to someday have a Sakabatou of his own and protect people just like his hero does.

Hajime Saitou

Saitou Hajime fought in the Bakumatsu on the side of the Shogunate in a group of swordsmen called the Shinsengumi. Saitou's sword skills quickly earned him the captaincy of the third unit and his ferocity in battle earned him the nickname Miburo or Wolf of Mibu. Saitou's sword style is Mugai Ryu and his favorite technique is a left handed flat thrust called Gatotsu. The only swordsman of the Ishin Shishi who could cross blades equally with Saitou was Hitokiri Battousai. Thus they fought many pitched battles without ever coming to a clear decision as to who was the better swordsman.

After his side lost the war, Saitou changed his name to Fujita Goro and worked as a police detective for the Meiji government. In 1878, Saitou found out that the former Hitokiri Battousai had come to Tokyo and was now residing at the Kamiya Dojo under the name Himura Kenshin and wielding his sword, but not killing. While Kenshin might have seemed strong to the people of the Meiji Era, Saitou remembered the warrior Kenshin once was and grew ever more disgusted as he watched Kenshin from a distance. When he was given the order by the Meiji government to fight Kenshin to evaluate the former hitokiri's skill, he was quite enthusiastic.

He is the third in command of Scepter4, placed in a position of trust despite his traitorous past.

It has been revealed that his father, Fushimi Niki, is the reason for his name. Saru (monkey) is his name because of the fact that Fushimi Niki believed his son to look like a monkey when he was born. Saruhiko was not brought up by a caring father, quite the opposite in fact. His father was mentally abusive, leading to Saruhiko's own twisted way of looking at things and thinking.
