The author/manga-ka of HxH has a habit of of making nearly every character you want to be female, male. There's enough references in the manga that she is male in the manga .

But, I'm firmly in the camp that she was made female for the anime audience. She was given a Female Voice Actor, and animated with a female figure. (view post)

Rei out of all the things you say where added in DxD NEW there are only a few that were actually added in DxD NEW since most of em were already in season 1.
I do however agree if we take this review to both DxD and DxD NEW instead of just NEW that the story kinda throws a lot in your face. I personally greatly enjoyed both seasons though and I've read the light novel multiple times. If someone finds DxD a bit too rushed to really enjoy then he/she should totally give the light novel a shot since it has way more scenes and storyline in between events which causes the pace to be way more casual.

The anime however is a great way to see most of the action and ecchi scenes ( even though they made the ecchi scenes softer compared to the light novel hehe ) xD (view post)

There isn't really a proper pronoun for ambiguous people (or for gender-neutral usage) in English or Japanese like there is in Swedish. Using "it" is usually a pronoun for an inanimate object, which can be demeaning when used on a person or character. Using "s/he" only works for instances where the gender is definitive one way or the other but unknown. Using "they" isn't widely accepted as it's usually used for a group of people. Using the character's (or person's) name is probably the best way although it isn't a pronoun. (view post)

A "tomboy" doesn't have to follow the definition 100% and honestly in my opinion, the term is getting looser and looser as stereotypical gender roles are dissolving away. Also, being a good cook and having a cute voice has nothing to do with being a tomboy or not - some guys can cook, some girls can't cook; some girls have lower-pitched voices, some guys have higher-pitched voices.

While it's not easy to find out who put the tag on, there is no clear evidence to either support or deny if Ritsu is a tomboy, and I'm not willing to debate this any further or remove the tag; whoever posted the tag can remove it if they feel they have made a mistake.

Akeno has mastery over both normal thunder and holy lightning, further on in the light novel she becomes a force that literately fights against gods.

If we are talking Akeno season 1 at the start of the anime then sure Laxus might win but Akeno further on in the story is just too devastating.
