As someone who deals with social anxiety, Tomoko is written extremely well, if exaggerated a bit for comedic effect. Her attitude is a coping mechanism. Society tells her that she must be beautiful, popular, flirty, etc., and she's just not. It's an extremely common reaction to lash out and put down others to make yourself feel better when you feel like you don't fit in. It makes you feel superior when you usually never get to feel normal. So she tells herself that perfectly nice girls who hang out with boys are slugs, so she doesn't feel bad that she doesn't have a boyfriend - after all, she's no slug like they are. That's her reasoning. It's very toxic and unhealthy, but it's a super common reaction.

And otaku is a derogatory term in Japan anyway. You don't see people going around calling themselves otaku like you do in other countries because there's such a stigma against it. If you say you're an otaku, people assume you're sitting in your basement all day playing video games/watching anime and not contributing to society, which is important to Japanese people. It's not something that Tomoko as a character can use to feel pride/self-confidence - it just makes her feel more like an outcast. Although, I believe the term is starting to not have quite so negative connotations in the past year or so, so maybe that's changing bit by bit.

Sorry, that got a little rambling ^^ I just really enjoy Tomoko's character, but I think she's kind of hard to understand to people that don't really deal with social anxiety. She's fun to analyze. (view post)

Also after having seen/read both series I can tell that Issei has way more power both offensively and defensively and yes that is comparing it to Allens crowned clown form.

I've never seen Allen capable of blowing up entire mountains with just 1 attack , and that was already done by Issei before he achieved his dragonform xD

Ok, maybe this can be corrected. According to manga and the anime, Miya was the only adult Sekirei. You have her listed as a teen, but have Matsu listed as an adult. Miya was Sekirei number 00 then changed to number 01 and Matsu is Sekirei number 2. Refer to Sekirei season 2 episode 7. (view post)

(Again, I'm at this.) The anime wasn't too bad, but a lot of the plot seemed really rushed for the anime since CLAMP jam-packed a lot of info into the 8 volumes of the manga.

The manga itself, from what I remember of it, is kinda "enh" since none of it was horribly memorable (and the fact taht i only read it once). There's also the heavy symbolism overtone that gives the series the sort of darkness to it... Basically, Japanese call a "PC" (personal computer) a "perso-com" and because there's ruined relations here and there because people "fall in love" with their PCs... More so that people pay more attention to their PCs than the person they're in a relationship with. The whole point of Chii's character is (put aside that weird program thing) that she is the model of how people should be with their PCs, which is that you can't romantically fall in love with your PC since it doesn't have sentience (normal perso-com in chobits, because Chii technically is sentient), and that physical consummation isn't real consummation since it's only one-sided (hence why Chii's switch is placed where it is). Darkness aside though, it's one that gets you thinking a bit if you understand the symbolism and what's actually going on. (view post)

Anyway, I do agree that the anime is kinda "enh" and prefer the manga greatly over it. If you have the patience to read through it all, I'd say it's pretty worth it since the bulk of main characters do change over the years (Su and Sara not too much, but at the least their energy levels toned down enough) and there is resolution to the series. Yeah Anonymous I was thinking the same thing. Every day I see the system reset all popular char views and for some reason her views rise sometimes to a 100 and higher, by mid day to end of day.
